About the Bärn-Netz

A new approach to healthcare — for the Bern region.

The Bärn-Netz is an integrated care region within the Swiss Medical Network. We bring together specialists from various disciplines under one roof, united by shared values, clear processes and a shared responsibility for your health.

What we stand for

Our aim is to provide healthcare that puts people at the centre, not the system. Within the Bärn-Netz network, you always know who is responsible for your care, what happens next and who you can turn to. This is no coincidence; it is the result of a carefully designed coordination structure in which your personal healthcare coordinator plays a central role.

At the heart of our model: healthcare coordination

In the Swiss healthcare system, coordination between GPs, specialists, laboratories and care providers is often the biggest weak point. Test results go missing. Appointments are double-booked. Patients have to explain themselves over and over again. This costs time, causes stress and sometimes even more.

At Bärn-Netz, we have deliberately closed this gap. Every VIVA member is given access to a personal healthcare coordinator. This specialist is not an anonymous helpline, but a named point of contact who:

  • Keeps track of your entire course of treatment
  • Actively supports and follows up on referrals
  • Ensures that test results arrive on time and are understood
  • Advises you directly and personally in the event of uncertainties or questions
  • Works with you and your GP to pursue prevention and treatment goals

Health coordination acts as the organisational link between all those involved — so that you can focus on your health, not on the administrative side of things.

Part of a national network

The Bärn-Netz is one of several integrated care regions within the Swiss Medical Network. As part of this network, you benefit from national quality standards, modern infrastructure and the exchange of knowledge between specialists from across the country.

At the same time, we remain firmly rooted in the region: our locations, doctors and nursing staff know the Bern region and the people who live here.

How we work

General practice

Your GP is your main point of contact for medical matters. They make diagnoses, decide on referrals and maintain an overall clinical view of your health.

Personal health coordination

Your healthcare coordination service translates the medical treatment plan into a coordinated daily routine: it organises, communicates and provides support to ensure that no information and no patient is lost in the process between the various specialist departments.

Specialist network

Gastroenterology, gynaecology, radiology, orthopaedics, surgery, geriatrics and home care services are on hand to provide support.

Your gateway to the Bärn-Netz

VIVA is your personal key to integrated care — including healthcare coordination.

Anyone taking out insurance with the Bärn-Netz does so via VIVA — the joint health plan offered by Swiss Medical Network and Visana. VIVA brings healthcare coordination directly into your basic insurance cover.

For more information about VIVA and to calculate your premium, visit the VIVA website.

Partners in the Bärn-Netz

Healthcare coordination takes the pressure off you too.

As a GP in the Bärn-Netz network, you benefit from the fact that the organisational burden does not rest solely on your shoulders. The healthcare coordinator handles communication with specialists, coordinates appointments and follows up on test results — so that you can concentrate on making medical decisions.
