We often forget it exists, but when it goes wrong, it very quickly reminds us of its presence, whether through pain, reduced range of motion, or loss of function, to the point that sometimes even the simple act of lifting a spoon to the mouth to eat can become difficult, if not impossible.
And for good reason: the shoulder, because that is what we are talking about, is a highly complex joint, in fact made up of several distinct joints. It involves not only a large number of bones, but also muscles, ligaments, and tendons, which make it the most mobile joint in the human body, allowing wide-ranging movements that are absolutely essential to our daily lives.
However, heavily used, this joint wears down with age and over time, and as we are living longer and longer, this wear leads many sufferers to consult their physician, either because of persistent pain or because of a severely limiting restriction of movement.
