Difficult to recognise, depression in older people must be taken seriously to prevent it from becoming chronic and to improve their quality of life.
Difficulty concentrating, memory loss, muscle pain, fears, insecurities, hypochondria, increased irritability, refusal to eat, self-isolation: in older people, this is not just «sadness» but is known as major depression: «A serious condition that must be addressed seriously and promptly with the most appropriate individualised care».
