Dry needling: a targeted approach to pain relief

At Clinique Valmont, dry needling is used in physical therapy to treat pain.

Dry needling is a technique used in physiotherapy to manage muscular pain. It involves inserting thin needles, without injecting any substance (hence the term dry), directly into the muscles. The needle is precisely placed on a trigger point, an area of muscle tension responsible for pain and related symptoms.

Dry needling is most effective when it is integrated into a comprehensive physiotherapy approach, combined with an appropriate rehabilitation program.

How does it work?

Dry needling targets muscle knots (or spasms). The insertion of the needle causes a muscle contraction, followed by a release of the tension point. The muscle can then gain strength and flexibility.

This technique is part of a comprehensive physiotherapy approach.

The benefits

  • Reduced pain
  • Improved local blood circulation
  • Enhanced mobility and strength
  • Benefits for neurological conditions, particularly spasticity

Who is it for ?

Dry needling may be offered:

  • On an outpatient basis or during a rehabilitation stay
  • For musculoskeletal disorders
  • For certain neurological conditions
